MONTANA MAGIC

Stephen Rider Haggard spends a week in the Beaverhead valley, and finds great sport in magnificent surroundings.
Jay Burgin is a well-built man with a healthy complexion and a permanent boyish smile under his curiously Beatle-like haircut. The boyish smile seems to be something to do with his clear grasp of how important an ability to relax is to modern man. He and his wife Mary Jacques have bought a house in the Beaverhead valley, a beautiful and under-visited part of Montana, and turned it into a vertable Xandu. Now Fiver Rivers Lodge is a truly luxurious place to stay, with one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen.

They hired the best chef they could get, so the food is magnificent. Then they serve cocktails at the kitchen counter or in the hot tub, and never publish any set meal-times, to keep it relaxed. If they could actually confiscate their customers' watches, they would, but you have to be reasonably punctual to meet your river guide!
