Getting away from the office environment for time together can give us the impetus to gain a new perspective on our team, our work and personal lives. We can take preventive action that promotes the health and well-being of our business and our people. Frequently businesses that have chosen a large urban area as their destination for such a meeting often leave disappointed that their team didn't really come together. Or, the results of the group's work were less than they hoped for. The diversity of irrelevant activities in the urban setting distracted them. They felt that their energies were split out from the group rather than focused on it. Evenings and free time were often diverse for the group. Subgroups formed to engage in experiences that were not conductive to being refreshed for the team's work. These subgroups may even have become exclusive rather than inclusive of other members. Then when the total tam met together again much of the time and energy of the group was spent on reestablishing community and refocusing on the agenda. < previous - next >
