One team within a large organization will get around to having their Christmas party in March. They've simply been too busy meeting the daily demands to take time for themselves. Even a visitor to their department can see their dilemma. Indeed, they do have an extra ordinary workload. Fortunately, they can laugh about their Christmas party. With laughter and a definite plan for celebrating together, they are maintaining their team spirit.
We may say that this situation would never happen in our business. However, when we look closely, many businesses and organizations share a common difficulty: finding uninterrupted time for teams to celebrate successes, to critique mistakes, to think creatively, and to search for innovative ways to deal with everyday situations. It's easier to put ourselves and team building last. Or, entirely skip the process. However, without this time together, it's difficult to move forward as a team.
