- FLY FISHING INSIDER -
by Chico Fernandez
Few places in the United States can match southwest Montana when it come to superb dry fly fishing for rainbows and especially big brown trout.
When I fished there last August, I found the trout were not much smaller-on the average-than the same species I took on a 21 day trip to New Zealand several years ago.
This Big Sky country is also cattle country, mostly open range criss-crossed with seemingly endless numbers of blue ribbon rivers and spring creeks that are protected from hordes of anglers because they are also mostly on private property. This combination makes the area seem almost uninhabited, much like it was 100 years ago. Five Rivers Lodge is located in the Beaverhead Valley area, a place I have been wanting to fish for many years. When the opportunity finally came, I eagerly blocked off the time on my calendar and made plans for my wife Marilyn and 17-year old son Stephen to join me. next >
