The Jefferson River begins near Twin Bridges, Montana, with the confluence of the Beaverhead, Big Hole, and Ruby rivers. It flows northeasterly 79 miles to Three Forks, where it joins the Gallatin and Madison rivers to form the headwaters of Missouri River at Missouri River Headwaters State Park.
